Deputy Warden Chrissy Smith began her career with the Department of Corrections in 2011 as an Office Support Assistant II at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex and has worked hard to achieve various leadership positions. In 2014, Smith was promoted to Administrative Secretary and then in 2016 she was promoted to Classification and Treatment Officer where she served as EKCC's Transfer Coordinator.
Deputy Warden Smith previously attended the Annual Basic Negotiator's Course, served as a team member on the prison's Crisis Negotiation Team and graduated from the 2018 S.A.I.L. Leadership Program.
In 2019, she received a promotion to Corrections Unit Administrator I and was tasked with opening the Transition Unit Program at EKCC. During this time, she converted a general population dormitory into a Restrictive Housing Unit and implemented the RHU Transitional Behavioral Modification Program. The following year, she attended the Corrections Emergency Response Team Training (CERT) Basic Academy and later became the assistant Squad Leader for EKCC's CERT Team.
In 2021, Smith was promoted to Corrections Unit Administrator II and continued her assignment to EKCC's Transition Unit Program. In 2023, she successfully expanded the Transition Unit Program to a double program with 24 classes per week.
Smith has been a member of Kentucky Crime on Counsel and Delinquency since 2012 and served as Cave Run Chapter president in 2019 and 2022, and on the state board of directors in 2021, 2023 and 2024. She is a recipient of the 2019 Mary Francis Cooper Award and 2019 Achievement Award.
Deputy Warden Smith earned her bachelor's degree from Morehead State University in May of 2016.
