Aftercare and Reentry Services

SOAR
Supporting Others in Active Recovery (SOAR) is an aftercare program within the Division of Addiction Services. Since graduates of the Division's programming are more vulnerable in the prison/jail general population, SOAR helps them to stay safe and sober after completing their program. SOAR is focused on relapse prevention, education, and reentry.

Family Engagement Sessions

DOC currently conducts virtual family engagement sessions over the course of four months for prison SAP/SOAR participants. If families attend at least two of these sessions, they are then invited to in-person sessions at the facility. Seminar topics have included reentry simulations, what to expect after release, MAT education, and Narcan® training. Participation in family engagement at seminars has increased considerably in recent years, with at least two facilities currently reporting over 30 family members involved. Families have expressed a strong desire to provide support but often feel uncertain about how to do so effectively. We are really proud of this innovative, structured platform that equips families with essential resources, along with clear information regarding expectations and potential risks following release from incarceration.
