Interns/Student Volunteers

​Welcome Student! The Department of Corrections offers exciting opportunities for college students who want to develop relevant skills in a collaborative, dynamic and fast-paced environment. Students placed with us will gain meaningful real-world experience in the corrections field.

Our workforce includes a diverse group of individuals working in a variety of positions across the Commonwealth in both community offices and our 13 state-operated prisons (adult institutions). Student Volunteer Application

Student Volunteer/Intern/Practicum Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university, be in good standing, and have at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in a field considered necessary for the department's programs and institutions.
  • May be subject to a drug screen.
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, a felony or trafficking in narcotics, dangerous drugs, or controlled substances.

 
Placement Location Information:

We can look for a placement for you in one of our prisons or community offices. Please review the DOC website for more information on all areas within the Department of Corrections.

Some Common Placement Areas:

  • Division of Addiction Services (prison or community office)
  • Division of Reentry (prison or community office)
  • Division of Probation and Parole district offices (community only)​
