Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)

Agency Policy

In compliance with Section 115.22 of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Standards, the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) has a zero tolerance toward all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment. The Department has provided policies to ensure referrals of allegations for investigations.

Reporting Abuse

To report any incident of sexual abuse or sexual harassment involving an offender housed within a Department of Corrections facility, you may call the PREA Hotline toll free at 1-833-DOC-PREA (1-833-362-7732). Please have any information or evidence available for the investigator who will be assigned to handle the case. False accusations may be prosecuted. All reports are taken seriously and investigated as outline in PREA.

Data Review for Corrective Action and Publication

In compliance with Section 115.88 of the PREA Standards KDOC has reviewed data collected and aggregated pursuant to section 115.87 in order to assess and improve the effectiveness of its sexual abuse prevention, detection, and response policies, practices and training including:

Identifying problem area
Taking corrective action on an ongoing basis; and
Preparing an annual report of its finding and corrective actions.

Also, in compliance with Section 115.89 of the PREA Standards, KDOC shall make all aggregated sexual abuse data readily available to the public at least annually.
