Deputy Warden James Whitt

​Whitt began his career with the department in September 1997 as a Correctional Officer at EKCC. He was promoted to sergeant in 2007 and was assigned as segregation, central control, and year supervisor. In 2008 he was promoted to operations lieutenant. In 2011 Whitt was again promoted, this time to captain and he served as shift supervisor on all​ three shifts during his six years in the position.

In July 2017 he was promoted to correctional major and the following month he was assigned as the acting deputy warden of security for the prison. Since that time, he has been tasked with the duties of major and deputy warden of security. Whitt served on the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) from 2011 to 2016. He held the positions of assistant squad leader. He has also completed several specialized training during his career and been an instructor in many of those areas.

Whitt has been awarded EKCC employee of the month and the institution's 2010 Achievement Award. He is a graduate of the 2016 Commissioner's Executive Leadership Program.
