Durrett began her career with the Department of Corrections in 2004 at the Kentucky State Reformatory as a recreation leader. The next year she transferred to the Assessment Center at RCC and assumed the position of classification and treatment officer. In October 2007, Durrett promoted to a unit administrator I where she worked in various areas including the minimum security/minimum SAP units, CD/CC jail classification and the Assessment Center.
In December 2012, Durrett promoted again to unit administrator II. In addition to supervising numerous areas, she served as the grievance coordinator, EEO coordinator, and transfer coordinator. In September 2017, Durrett became a program administrator in the Assessment Center. During this time, she assisted in merging the controlled intake and RCC records areas into one department.
During her career, Durrett has received several awards including Employee of the Quarter and Supervisor of the Quarter. She was also the recipient of the Governor's Ambassador Award for Community Service and Volunteerism for facilitating the weekend feeding program at Eastern Elementary School in Henry County.
A 2004 graduate of the University of Louisville, Durrett received her bachelor's degree in sports administration. She completed the Certificate of Supervisory Essentials program in September 2015 and graduated from the Commissioner's Executive Leadership Program in 2017.
