Northpoint Training Center (NTC), in partnership with the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society (DBCHS), operates the Mutts with Manners Program. The program consists of 10 inmates trainers and two alternates, working together with a professional trainer, prison staff and volunteers, who partner in two-man/one dog teams for a six-week period. The inmates in the program are screened and must complete an application and interview process. The program provides basic obedience training, socialization, and behavior modification to the shelter dogs, making them more adoptable to the community, while also teaching the inmates in the program the importance of responsibility, job skills, and teamwork.
Mutts with Manners canine graduates are eligible to be adopted by the public. More information regarding the program and its partnership with the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society can be found on the DBCHS website.
All current dogs who are eligible for adoption can also be viewed on the Facebook page: Mutts With Manners. You can also contact DBCHS at (859) 238-1117 or by messaging the Facebook page to obtain an adoption application.
