Division at a Glance

As of December 2024, the Division of Probation and Parole's 552 sworn officers supervised 48,243 offenders placed on court ordered or parole board recommended community supervision. In 2024, the division completed over 14,012 full presentence investigations, 6,502 supplemental and 5,815 post PSI's by six dedicated PSI investigators and 71 specialized PSI Officers.  The Division also has forty-two (42) class D Probation & Parole Officers spread throughout the state of Kentucky who provide services on average to 275 -300 class D inmates in the Recovery Service Centers, which includes transports, furlough requests, investigation of parole plans and the completion of releasing documentation.  In addition to completing the supervision of probationers and parolees, Probation and Parole staff provide investigative services to the courts and parole board, rehabilitation services to offenders, assistance in employment, education resources, home placements and investigation of community concerns. Various other duties include court appearances, testimony, reporting notable offender incidents or achievements to the releasing authorities, home visits, drug and alcohol testing, arrest duties and transportation of prisoners, referral of offenders to the appropriate resources, monitoring payment of fees, victim restitution payments, collecting DNA and community service work.   The Division of Probation and Parole is also responsible for the administration of Interstate Compact, transferring the supervision of cases to and from Kentucky, NCIC, warrants and extraditions, parole to hold and the processing of Civil Rights Restoration requests submitted by ex-offenders.

Accreditation

Beginning in January 2007, the Kentucky Division of Probation and Parole continues to receive accreditation through the American Correction Association.  In January 2025, after the three-year accreditation process, the Division was granted successful reaccreditation certification.  The Division of Probation and Parole continues to strive in the tradition of this profession providing,  “best practices" and excel in the provision of services and opportunities to community supervised individuals.​
