Divisions

Compliance

​​The goal of the Compliance Division is twofold: To ensure consistent and high-quality service by employees and contractors through maintaining clear standards and expectations as they pertain to each branch of the Division: Policy & Accreditation, Contract Management, PREA, Program Credit, and Safety while also promoting an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and demonstrates executive staff’s commitment to integrity and compliance with the law and policies.​


Policy and Accreditation
Staff in the Policy and Accreditation Branch facilitate the revision and procedural review of all Corrections Policies and Procedures (CPPs), as well as the Legislative Research Commission (LRC) approval process for departmental policies, and assist all state adult institutions with the same process.   The Policy and Accreditation Branch also oversees American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation for the Department of Corrections.


Contract Management

The Contract Management Branch oversees contract compliance for the Reentry Service Centers and Recovery Kentucky Centers. This includes conducting announced and unannounced inspections at all contracted centers, assisting with center staff training, supporting locations during emergencies, and ensuring that offenders receive the appropriate services while housed at the centers.


PREA

The PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Branch is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing agency efforts to comply with the national standards as set forth by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).  This involves working closely with facility PREA compliance managers in all state-operated and contract facilities, as well as contracted Reentry Service Centers & Recovery Kentucky Centers.  Staff on the PREA Branch conducts internal audits, file reviews, and oversees external audits conducted by DOJ-certified PREA auditors. Additionally, they provide specialized training for compliance managers, PREA investigators, and staff responsible for conducting risk assessments.


Program Credit

The Program Credit Branch oversees quality assurance for DOC-approved programming across the state. This includes programming facilitated in jails, Reentry Service Centers, Recovery Kentucky Centers, adult institutions, Probation and Parole offices, and approved community partners. Additionally, the Program Credit Branch is responsible for all program attendance, payments, and resolving denied programming credits if possible.


Safety

The Safety Branch is responsible for safety policies and procedures, compliance programs, safety training, facility safety inspections at state-run and contracted adult institutions, and fire protection coordination.
