The Little Sandy Correctional Complex (LSCC) currently has a dog program​ that allow inmates to work with the community to improve the lives of shelter dogs in the area.

A New Leash on Life program began in October 2008 in the general population area of the institution and partners with the Menifee County Animal Shelter to place up to 10 dogs with carefully selected inmates handlers to be trained in obedience and socialization.

Inmates working in this program, as well as the staff involved, strive to provide shelter dogs with a second chance at a forever home. They use effective, humane techniques to enhance the dog/owner relationship through behavior modification and other skills needed to become loyal family companions. Dogs are house-trained and taught basic commands and tricks, but more importantly, under-socialized and abused dogs are given the love and attention needed to heal and be ready for adoption. Each dog the prison receives has been spayed/neutered, checked for any injury and illness, and given all vaccinations.

Since its initiation, the program has been responsible for the successful adoption of over 360 dogs. This program has proven not only beneficial for the recovery of the dogs, but are proving instrumental in aiding our trainers in a successful societal reentry as well.
