To protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

 Deputy Warden Malcolm Smith

Smith began his career in corrections in October 2006 as a correctional officer at LSCC. Smith was a restricted housing officer for over a year prior to promoting to a classification and treatment officer in August 2009. In this position he co-facilitated the Thinking for a Change program and taught InsideOut Dad. Smith also sponsored the Lifer's Club. In August 2013 Smith was promoted to unit administrator I for a housing unit that includes the orientation dorm and the Substance Abuse Program (SAP). In March 2015, Smith was promoted to unit administrator II for the same housing unit.

Smith graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. In 2013 he went through Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Investigator Training. He received LSCC's achievement award in 2014. He is a member of the Laurel Gorge Chapter of the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency (KCCD).
