Keith Helton began his career with Corrections at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) as a correctional officer in May of 1997. He was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to the Little Sandy Correctional Complex (LSCC) in May of 2005 upon the facilities opening and was promoted to Correctional Unit Administrator I the following year. In August of 20010, he transferred back to EKCC to the position of Correctional Captain and was promoted to Senior Captain the following year, and then to the position of Deputy Warden in 2013. Helton served as the acting Warden at Blackburn Correctional Complex (BCC) in 2016 and was promoted to the position of Warden in 2017 at BCFC. In September of 2018, Helton transferred to LSCC again to serve as Warden.
During his career, Helton completed the Commissioner Executive Leadership Program (CELP) in 2007 and the CELP Alumni class in 2012. He was the recipient of the 2007 Achievement Award from LSCC and the 2011 Achievement Award from EKCC, as well as a 2017 Commissioner's Award. Helton has served as Commander for the Corrections Emergency Response Team while at EKCC and LSCC, and served as the Eastern Region CERT Commander. Prior to his service in Corrections, Helton served in the US Navy.
