Frankfort, Ky. (October 6, 2008) – Northpoint Training Center in Boyle County received a near perfect score during its re-accreditation process this week with the American Correctional Association (ACA). The prison received a total score of 99.8 percent on their audit.
The head of the audit team praised the facility for receiving such a high score and said it was a “signification achievement and great reflection on staff’ especially in light of the fact the facility was not originally designed as a prison. The prison’s sanitation area also received high marks along with the professionalism of staff throughout the institution.
Commissioner LaDonna Thompson attended the exit interview, the final stage of the audit process where auditors present their findings, and congratulated the Northpoint employees.
“I’m very proud to have the opportunity to be here and be a part of this today and to have the opportunity to congratulate you,” said Thompson. “I know the hard work involved in preparing for an audit. I’m very proud of you, and this entire facility. But I want you to know, with such an excellent set of staff that I expected no less of you.”
It was the seventh audit for the Northpoint Training Center. The prison will receive its re-accreditation award during ACA’s winter conference in Orlando.
ACA consists of over 500 national standards that cover security, operational and programming aspects of a prison and require constant monitoring and quality control checks. Each prison is audited by ACA every three years and has an inter-departmental audit (Program Security Review) every year.  Kentucky has been a member of ACA since the early 1980s.
